The purpose of the certificate is to record how energy efficient a property is and to measure its environmental impact. There are two ratings on the certificate. The first gives an energy efficiency rating from A to G, where A is very energy efficient and G is inefficient.
The second rating gives the environmental impact which is a measure of a home’s impact on the environment in terms of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions – again the rating is from A to G, the higher the rating, the less impact the property has on the environment.
Together these ratings give a measure of the property’s overall efficiency. The higher the rating in each area, the more energy-efficient the home is, and the lower the fuel bills are likely to be.
The ratings are not based on domestic appliances but on the performance of the actual building and its services such as heating and lighting.
The certificate also gives specific recommendations for how to improve the performance of your property and the potential rating which could be achieved when recommendations are applied.
